EKU Mourns the Passing of Athletics Business Manager David Parke


RICHMOND, Ky. – David Parke, the Eastern Kentucky University Athletics Business Manager for the past 33 years, passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 16 at his home.

David began working for EKU in 1978 in the billings and collections divisions. Since 1980, David served in the athletics department as the Athletics Business Manager. He was a fixture at Colonel football games as the liaison with the officiating crew. He also spent several years on the statistics crew for both football and basketball games.

In addition, David was the longtime tournament manager for the girl's Sweet 16 and the All-A Classic basketball tournaments when held at McBrayer Arena.

The Madison County native graduated from EKU in 1978. He played baseball, football and basketball at Madison Central High School.

David was born on March 14, 1956 in Madison County, the son of the late Harvey Brown and Ruby Ramsey Parke. He played baseball, football and basketball at Madison Central High School. David went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University in 1978.

David was a former Board member of the Richmond Little League as well as a former coach. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church. David loved his church, his family, his community and the university.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m., at The First Baptist Church, 425 Eastern Bypass, Richmond, with Pastor Bill Fort officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m., at the church.
