Poor Shooting Dooms Lady Colonels In Loss To Ohio

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Eastern Kentucky women's basketball team was held to a season-low 52 points in a 60-52 loss to Ohio Saturday at McBrayer Arena.

Facing a 32-22 deficit to open the second half, Eastern Kentucky (3-3) began with a 10-5 run and slowly chipped away at the Bobcat lead.

The Lady Colonels pulled within three with 2:37 remaining, but Kiyanna Black answered with three of her game-high 20 points on the next Ohio (3-1) possession. Eastern never got closer than six the rest of the way.

Eastern Kentucky shot just 29 percent (16-for-55) from the floor in the contest. Prior to Saturday's game, the Lady Colonels averaged 44 percent shooting.

Shelly Harper led EKU with 13 points while Miranda Maples recorded a game-high 13 rebounds.

Kat Yelle added 11 points for Ohio. The Bobcats shot 33 percent from the field.

Eastern held its only lead of the contest at the 19:29 mark in the first half, compliments of a Jasmine Stafford bucket. EKU's lead was short lived, as Mariah Byard answered with a three-pointer to give the Bobcats a 3-2 edge. Following a media timeout, Ohio (3-1) put together an 8-2 run to gain a 16-5 advantage.

EKU freshman Michaela Hunter came off the bench and sparked a 7-0 run with a three-pointer to pull the Colonels within four. The Bobcats held off the Colonels with a 10-4 run to close the first half of play.

The Colonels face Florida A&M (4-1) in the Southern Mississippi Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday. The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
