RICHMOND, Ky
. – The Jack Ison Varsity Weight Room in the Moberly Building recently underwent a significant renovation as new equipment provided by the Sorinex Company in Irmo, S.C., was installed.

"This is a great day for EKU Athletics," head strength and conditioning coach Jon-Michael Davis said. "Right now, there are only a few places that have this current set-up – Texas and Cal to name a couple. We also took some ideas from the Jacksonville Jaguars and Denver Broncos. We are doing something very similar to all of these examples, but the best way to fit our needs and scheduling."

With the current upgrade, the varsity weight room now has 10 whisper-link wood Olympic platforms, all with dumbbell and bumper storage, as well as five mini-racks that are band and chain compatible with bar storage. Five of the platforms have dual-sided racks which will allow a student-athlete to train in position A and a different student-athlete to train in position B in a safe fashion.

"This is going to be more efficient for the student-athletes and we can now accommodate more people," Davis said. "Sorinex addressed all of our needs and we are very excited about our new equipment."

This renovation is the first significant improvement since the Varsity weight room opened in 1999. The new equipment will benefit all 17 varsity EKU programs and more than 350 student-athletes.
