RICHMOND, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team has won seven of its last nine games, and the Lady Colonels will take their winning ways on the road this weekend to face Southeast Missouri at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday and UT Martin at 8:00 p.m. on Monday.

EKU (12-7, 6-2 OVC) currently sits in second place in the OVC East and third place in the overall conference race. The Lady Colonels upended first-place Belmont, 55-51, at McBrayer Arena last Saturday before holding on to beat Tennessee State, 62-54, on Monday. With the wins, Eastern improved to 10-1 at home. The last time Eastern was at least 10-1 at home was 2004-05, when the Lady Colonels went a perfect 13-0 at home and won their most recent OVC title.

Senior Alex Jones paced EKU with a double-double (11 points, 12 rebounds) against Belmont, while fellow senior Jade Barber went for a double-double (15 points, 15 rebounds) versus Tennessee State. Barber (1st / 10.8) and Jones (5th / 8.7), who needs just 10 more rebounds to take over third place on EKU’s career rebounds list, both rank in the top-five in rebounding in the OVC this season. The duo has a chance to become the first Lady Colonel teammates ever to record more than 250 rebounds each in a single season.

SEMO (8-12, 2-6 OVC) won two of its first three conference games this season, but has since dropped five straight. The struggling Redhawks are led by Bailie Roberts, who comes in averaging 11.0 points-per-game and Jordan Hunter, who comes in averaging 10.3 points-per-game.

EKU is 27-15 all-time versus SEMO. The last time the two teams met, Eastern won, 52-37, on Jan. 7, 2012 in Richmond. That is the lowest point total to which EKU has held a Division I foe since defeating Morehead State, 75-28, on Jan. 22, 1975.

UT Martin (10-13, 5-4 OVC), the preseason OVC favorite, currently sits in fourth place in the OVC West after consecutive losses to SIUE and Eastern Illinois. The always-dangerous Skyhawks are led by a pair of electric guards in Heather Butler (21.8 points-per-game) and Jasmine Newsome (21.0 points-per-game). Butler and Newsome rank No. 1 and 2 in the OVC in scoring this season.

EKU is 30-15 all-time against UTM, although the Lady Colonels have dropped five straight games to the Skyhawks.

Following this weekend’s action, EKU stays on the road at in-state rival Morehead State on Saturday, Feb. 9. Tip is scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
