COOKEVILLE, Tenn.
– Senior Brittany Coles scored her 1,000th career point and senior Alex Jones grabbed her 1,000th career rebound, but it was not enough, as the Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball team fell at Tennessee Tech, 67-47, in a pivotal Ohio Valley Conference matchup on Thursday night at the Eblen Center.

EKU (17-9, 11-4 OVC) entered the game atop the OVC East standings and one game ahead of TTU (17-11, 11-4 OVC). The two teams split their regular season series, so the Golden Eagles currently hold the tiebreaker with a better divisional record.

Jones pulled down her 1,000 career rebound with 7:10 remaining in the first half. The native of Elizabethtown, Ky. is one of only two Lady Colonels ever to score 1,000 career points and grab 1,000 career rebounds. She finished the game with a team-high 10 rebounds and is now 24 rebounds shy of breaking the EKU career record held by Laphelia Doss (1,026).

Coles scored her 1,000th point on a jumper with 11:33 remaining in the game. The native of Lexington, Ky. is the 22nd member of EKU’s 1,000-points club.

EKU shot a season-low 25.5 percent (14-of-55) from the field and connected on only four three-pointers in the loss. TTU, meanwhile, shot a blistering 42.3 percent (22-of-52) from the field and knocked down eight trifectas.

Junior Marie Carpenter led the Lady Colonels with 10 points, while Coles added nine points.

Molly Heady came off the bench to pace Tech with 19 points. The Golden Eagles’ leading scorer, Diamond Henderson, contributed 15.

EKU was within two of TTU, 20-18, with just less than five minutes to play in the first half. The Golden Eagles, however, closed the first 20 minutes of play on a 15-4 run and went into the locker room at halftime up by 13, 35-22. Tech led by double digits the rest of the way.

The Lady Colonels have not won in Cookeville since 2003.

EKU closes out the regular season on Saturday at Tennessee State. Tip is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
