RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team will try to keep its hold on first place in the OVC East Division this weekend when the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles come to town. A doubleheader on Friday is set to begin at 1 p.m., with a Saturday single game also set for 1 p.m.
The Colonels (18-12, 5-2 OVC) have only beaten Tennessee Tech (11-13, 0-2) once in the last 10 meetings dating back to 2008. TTU swept the only two games last year by a combined score of 15-4.
Sophomore catcher
Katie Tackett is hitting .636 (14-of-22) with three home runs and three doubles in seven conference games thus far. Meanwhile, sophomore pitcher
Leanna Pittsenbarger is 3-1 in league games while averaging 7.56 strikeouts per game, which ranks third in the OVC.
Tennessee Tech has dropped four straight games following a doubleheader sweep by Murray State on March 22. Melody Christian ranks among the conference leaders in batting average (.388). However, the Golden Eagles rank last in the OVC with just five home runs this season. Taylor Ketchum is TTU’s primary starting pitcher with 12 starts to go along with an 8-5 record and 2.15 ERA.
