RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team looks to stay in the hunt for the top spot in the Ohio Valley Conference this weekend when the Colonels travel to Jacksonville State. The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game Sunday.
The Colonels (31-17, 16-5 OVC) are an impressive 10-1 in conference road games this season. Seven of the nine regulars in the EKU starting line-up are hitting above .300 in those games. Freshman
Sarah Fobbs leads the squad with six home runs, 14 RBIs and 10 runs scored in league away games. Starting pitcher
Leanna Pittsenbarger (18-8) is 5-0 in OVC road games while holding the opposition to a .168 batting average.
Jacksonville State (25-23, 10-10) has dropped five of six games overall heading into the weekend series following a 6-5 loss to Middle Tennessee on Thursday. Outfielder Krystal Ruth leads the league with 63 hits while infielder Sarah Borders ranks second in total bases (96).
EKU has not won a series from Jacksonville State since 2007.
Eastern currently trails Eastern Illinois by three games with six left to play for the No. 1 seed in the OVC tournament. SIUE is the only other team with a chance of hosting the league tourney. The Cougars are one game behind EIU in the standings. Eastern Kentucky went a combined 2-2 versus Eastern Illinois and SIUE this year.
