JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Sophomore pitcher Leanna Pittsenbarger tossed a career-best 10 innings while holding host Jacksonville State to one run in the Eastern Kentucky University softball team’s 3-1 victory over the Gamecocks Saturday afternoon. JSU rallied late to take game two of the doubleheader, 6-4.

Pittsenbarger (19-8) struck out 10 batters and allowed just five hits on the way to earning her third straight victory. The native of Urbana, Ohio has given up a mere two runs over her last 24 innings pitched.

Eastern (32-18, 17-6 OVC) got on the board first in the opener thanks to freshman Sarah Fobbs’ solo home run. Jacksonville State (26-24, 11-11) picked up a run in the sixth to force extra innings.

In the 10th inning, junior Christina Ciolek came through with an RBI single to put the Colonels ahead for good. Ciolek and redshirt freshman Haley Schenasi each finished 3-for-5 at the plate in the opener.

Pittsenbarger did not allow a hit to the Gamecocks in the three extra innings.

For most of the second game it appeared the Colonels were going to sweep Jacksonville State. However, JSU erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth to overcome a 4-1 deficit.

A two-out, three-run home run by Sarah Borders in the sixth capped the rally for Jacksonville State.

Sophomore Lauren Mitchell led off the fourth inning with her first home run of the season to help the Colonels build the early 4-1 lead.

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow, April 28 beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
