EUGENE, Ore. – Eastern Kentucky University junior
Wade Meddles will earn second team All-American honors after placing 11th in the finals of the men’s 5,000 meters on Saturday, the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at historic Hayward Field.
It is another All-American honor on the growing resume of Meddles, who was named a cross country All-American in the fall after finishing 38th at the NCAA Championships in Louisville.
The native of Gardnerville, Nev. and transfer from Azusa Pacific University covered the 5,000 meters in 14:05.42, defeating runners from schools such as N.C. State, Northern Arizona, Missouri and Georgetown to achieve the top-16 finish.
Arizona’s Lawi Lalang won the race easily with a time of 13:35.19.
Meddles was one of four Eastern Kentucky University student-athletes to compete at the premiere event in all of college track and field. Sophomore
Ole Hesselbjerg earned first team All-American honors by placing seventh in the men’s steeplechase (8:43.80), while sophomore
Ann Eason received second team All-American honors with a ninth-place finish in the women’s 5,000 meters (16:06.11) and sophomore
Thijs Nijhuis earned honorable mention All-American honors by finishing 21st in the men’s 10,000 meters (30:42.41).
