LORETTO, Pa. – After snapping an eight match losing streak on Saturday, the Eastern Kentucky volleyball team ran its winning streak to two straight with a 3-1 victory at Saint Francis on Sunday.
The Colonels won by scores of 25-11, 25-13, 20-25 and 25-19 to improve to 6-8 on the season.  The Red Flash fell to 0-13 this season.
Eastern scored the first four points of the first set and never trailed.  A kill by 
Alexis Plagens stretched the margin to eight, 16-8.  Another kill by Plagens followed by a SFU error made it a 12-point game, 21-9.  Abby Cvelbar closed out the set with an ace for a 1-0 Colonel lead.
EKU started the second set like it did the first, scoring the first four points and never trailing.  This time the Colonels ran their lead to 12-2 on a kill by Plagens.  Another kill by Plagens and a Saint Francis error pushed the margin to 14 at 22-8.  A kill by 
Julia Mindlina ended the set and staked the visitors to a 2-0 lead.
After winning the third set, the Red Flash led 10-8 in the fourth before Eastern Kentucky used a 7-1 run to take control.  A kill by SFU's Leeanne Haus had her team within three, 21-18, but the Colonels closed out the match by scoring four of the final five points.  Freshman 
Tori Anderson finished it off with a kill.
Plagens led all players with 17 kills.  
Ashley Edmond added 11 kills.  Cvelbar had four aces in the match.  Anderson had six blocks, four kills and no errors.
Hannah Kutny led Saint Francis with 10 kills.
The Colonels begin Ohio Valley Conference play next weekend with road matches at Tennessee State on Friday and Belmont on Saturday.
