RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team will play its only home game in January on Saturday when the Lady Colonels host Ohio Valley Conference foe Jacksonville State at McBrayer Arena at 4:00 p.m.
EKU (9-6, 3-1 OVC) has won six of its last seven games and is currently tied with Tennessee Tech (6-11, 3-1 OVC) atop the OVC East standings.
The Lady Colonels shot a season-high 56.3 percent from the field en route to a 79-58 win at in-state rival Morehead State last Saturday. It was EKU's largest margin of victory in Morehead since an 85-64 win on Feb. 24, 2005.
Senior
Marie Carpenter led the way in the win, scoring 16 of her game-high 25 points in the second as the Lady Colonels began to pull away. Sophomore
Shelly Harper added 14 points, while sophomore
Miranda Maples had nine points, eight rebounds and a team-best five steals.
Carpenter needs only three three-pointers to break the EKU career record of 170 held by Angie Cox (1988-92).
EKU enters the weekend leading the OVC in scoring defense (63.3 points-per-game), scoring margin (+5.4) and rebounding margin (+3.9).
Jacksonville State (6-13, 2-4 OVC) sits in last place in the OVC East but arrives in Richmond having won two straight conference games over SIUE and Eastern Illinois.
Candace Morton averages 17.4 points-per-game to pace the Gamecocks offense.
EKU leads the all-time series with JSU, 16-6, and has won three consecutive games over the Gamecocks dating back to 2011-12 season.
Following Saturday's game, EKU will take a road trip to the Music City to face Belmont on Saturday, Jan. 25 and Tennessee State on Monday, Jan. 27.
