RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball went undefeated in December and enters its first Ohio Valley Conference road trip of the season riding a four-game winning streak. The Lady Colonels will play at SIUE on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. ET and Eastern Illinois on Monday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
EKU (7-5, 1-0 OVC) has not won five consecutive games since the 2004-05 season.
The Lady Colonels are tied with Tennessee Tech (4-9, 1-0 OVC) atop the OVC East after pulling away from Murray State, 86-72, in their conference opener on Monday.
Senior
Marie Carpenter, the OVC's leading scorer (21.8 points-per-game) led all players in that game with 23 points. Sophomore
Shelly Harper added 15 points while senior
Pilar Walker scored 10 points and dished out six assists. Freshman
Michaela Hunter came off the bench to record her first-career double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 boards.
EKU out-rebounded Murray State, 47-32, in the game and the Lady Colonels now lead the OVC with a +3.8 rebounding margin on the season.
EKU, however, will not have history on its side on Saturday, as the Lady Colonels are 1-5 all-time versus SIUE and have never won in Edwardsville.
SIUE (4-9, 1-0 OVC) comes into this weekend's matchup having won two straight, including a 68-56 victory over conference foe Belmont on Saturday, Dec. 28.
Tierny Austin paces the Cougars offense at 12.8 points-per-game.
Eastern Illinois (6-6, 1-0 OVC) has won three straight, including an 80-70 win over Tennessee State on Dec. 28. The Panthers will face Morehead State on Saturday afternoon before hosting EKU on Monday.
Sabina Oroszova nearly averages a double-double for EIU, scoring 18.8 points-per-game and grabbing 9.6 rebounds-per-game.
EKU is 15-16 all-time versus EIU. The Lady Colonels defeated the Panthers, 63-62, last year at McBrayer Arena for the first time since 2007.
Following this weekend's road trip, EKU will travel to in-state rival Morehead State on Saturday, Jan. 11.
