RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky fell to Dayton, 3-0, in a non-conference match at home on Wednesday.
Set scores were 25-18, 25-22 and 25-14 in favor of the visiting Flyers (20-5).
Senior
Alexis Plagens led the Colonels (16-9) with 11 kills. Senior
Dena Ott recorded a match-best 19 digs. Alaina Turner led all players with 15 kills for Dayton while teammate Isolde Hannan had six kills and five blocks.
As a team, the Flyers had 39 kills and 19 errors in 121 attacks for a .165 hitting percentage. Eastern had just 21 kills with 24 errors for a -.023 attack percentage. UD held a 10-4 edge in blocking.
EKU trailed by only one, 17-16, after a kill by Plagens in the first set. However, the Flyers scored five of the next six to build a 22-17 cushion. Back-to-back kills by Jill Loiars ended the set 25-18. Amber Erhahon's kills gave Dayton a 23-15 lead in the second set before the Colonels rolled off seven unanswered in an attempt to stay in the match. With Eastern Kentucky down one, 23-22, Loiars and Turner recorded kills to end the set and stake the visitors to a 2-0 lead.
UD scored 11 of the first 14 points in the third set and cruised to an 11-point victory.
The Colonels will go on the road for a pair of Ohio Valley Conference matches this weekend, beginning Friday night at Tennessee Tech. First serve is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
