RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University wrapped up the 2014 season with a 3-1 loss to in-state rival Morehead State on a cold and windy Friday afternoon at EKU Soccer Field.
The Colonels end the year with a record of 4-14-1 (2-7-1 OVC).
EKU jumped out to an early lead when freshman
Emmi Carroll received a cross from junior
Amani Thomas and scored from 10 yards out in the 10
th minute. It was Carroll's fifth goal of the season and Thomas' first assist.
Morehead State (10-5-5, 5-3-2 OVC) equalized in the 23
rd minute when Caity Fox scored off an assist from Kelsey Gomez. The Eagles then took the lead late in the second half when Macy Cobb headed in a ball off a free kick from Kelsey Patera.
Elizabeth McSparin added an insurance goal when she scored off a corner kick in the 81
st minute.
Morehead State outshot EKU, 22-5, in the game. The Eagles attempted a robust 17 shots during their second-half rally.
Freshman
Logan Harvey led EKU with two shots in the game.
Senior
Paige Larkin played all 90 minutes on the backline in her final performance as a Colonel. Juniors
Katie Bright and
Mikala Ferguson, sophomores
Cassie Smith and
Mikayla Brillon and Carroll also went the distance in the defeat.
Junior
Erika Wolfer started in goal for the Colonels and made seven saves.
