NEW ORLEANS
– The Eastern Kentucky University men's cross country team climbed four spots to No. 19 in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I national poll released on Tuesday.

The ascent is the result of a strong showing at the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday in South Bend. The Colonels – ranked No. 23 in the country entering last weekend – finished fifth out of 24 teams in the meet's talent-laden Blue Race, defeating such nationally-ranked teams as No. 16 North Carolina State, No. 18 Tulsa, No. 20 Princeton, No. 22 Southern Utah and No. 25 Colorado State.

The only teams to beat EKU in South Bend were No. 19 Michigan, No. 10 BYU, No. 15 New Mexico and No 24 Florida State.

Every team in Friday's Blue Race was regionally ranked.

Eastern was led by the performance of junior Amos Kosgey, who finished sixth out of 200 runners in the race with a five-mile time of 23:27.4. The native of Eldoret, Kenya was named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Runner of the Week on Tuesday.

The Colonel men will look to continue their rise in the national rankings when they compete at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Friday, Oct. 17.
