RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University head softball coach
Jane Worthington has announced that six high school seniors will join the Colonel program this coming fall – Hannah Clark, Brooke Harrison, Peyton Hutchens, Murphy McRoberts, Rachel Minogue and Brittany Oldaker.
"This has the potential to be one of the best classes we've had in some time, especially in terms of offensive production," Worthington said. "Not only are all six of these student-athletes solid players, but they are all genuinely good people off the field as well."
Clark, an infielder/utility player from Lakewood, California, helped Lakewood High to a league title and advance to the CIF tournament semifinals in 2014. She was named to the 2013-14 CIF Southern Section All-Academic team. Clark also plays on the La Royals travel team.
Harrison is a four-year varsity athlete for Martin Luther King High out of Riverside, California. The infielder helped her high school squad win back-to-back league titles in 2013 and 2014. Harrison was named Rookie of the Year in 2012 and came away with all-conference honors in 2014. She plays travel ball with USA Athletics out of Long Beach, California.
Hutchens, hailing from Houston, Texas, has been the starting varsity pitcher for The Woodlands College Park High School since her freshman season. She has earned all-county, all-district and team MVP accolades throughout her prep career. Hutchens also plays on the Cy-Fair Intruders Gold travel squad.
McRoberts, a pitcher/first baseman, was named the 2014 Colorado Player of the Year. A native of Fort Collins, Colorado, McRoberts earned all-state honors last year and was twice named Front Range League all-conference for Fossil Ridge High School.
A native of Corona, California, Minogue is a four-year varsity player for Santiago High. Minogue helped her high school team win the 2013 state and CIF Division 1 championships. The first baseman was named MVP of the state championship game after going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. As a junior in 2014, she hit .490 that included a 19-game hitting streak. Minogue also plays travel ball with American Pastime Gold.
Oldaker is a third baseman/catcher who played her prep softball at Lincoln High in Gahanna, Ohio. A three-time first team all-conference selection, Oldaker also picked up second team all-state accolades last year. She holds most of her school records for hitting and plays travel ball on the Lady Lasers Gold team.
Eastern Kentucky finished 29-22 overall and 15-10 in league play in 2014. The Colonels return six starting fielders and senior pitcher
Leanna Pittsenbarger, who was named to the NFCA all-region team for her efforts last season. The Colonels begin the 2015 season on Feb. 5 against Jackson State at the Sand Dollar Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
