Colonels Host Louisville in Midweek Clash

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team hosts Louisville for a midweek matchup on March 31 at 6 p.m. ET.

The Colonels (18-15, 7-2 ASUN) enter the matchup having won their past three series and riding a three-game winning streak.

The game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with live stats available.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS

Louisville (29-7, 6-3 ACC) comes to Gertrude Hood Field on a 10-game winning streak. Most recently, the Cardinals swept Georgia Tech in a series.

Notable wins for Louisville this season include Bellarmine (10-2, five innings), Northern Kentucky (10-6), Western Kentucky (13-4), and a series victory over No. 13 Stanford.

Louisville leads the all-time series, 9-5, including a 10-2, five-inning win over EKU last season.

Chelsea Mack and Madison Pickens lead the Cardinals at the plate. Mack leads the team with a .467 batting average, totaling 57 hits and 40 runs scored, while leading the ACC with 28 stolen bases. Pickens is hitting .417 with 45 hits, 36 RBIs, 36 runs, nine doubles and four home runs.

In the circle, Alyssa Zabala leads the Cardinals with a 7-2 record over 77.2 innings pitched, recording 66 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .242 batting average. Anna Wise follows in the rotation with a 2.96 ERA over 54.1 innings pitched and an 8-3 record on the season.

LAST TIME OUT

The Colonels have won their past three series, going 7-2 during their most recent sweep of Lipscomb.

In their last outing, EKU run-ruled Lipscomb, 8-0, in six innings.

The Colonels' defense has been strong, allowing just three runs in each of the past two series.

Victoria Byrum leads the pitching staff after being named ASUN Pitcher of the Week twice this season. She holds opponents to a .229 batting average with a 3.05 ERA over 75.2 innings pitched. Bayle Hunnicutt has also been effective in the circle, leading the team with 78.2 innings pitched and ranking second in the ASUN with 77 strikeouts.

At the plate last weekend, Kennedy Drafton recorded three RBIs and three runs, including a double and a triple that sparked a six-run third inning.

Skyler Billips also contributed, hitting a two-RBI home run in game two of the series against Lipscomb to help propel EKU to a 4-0 victory.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET at Gertrude Hood Field.
