JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team was defeated by host East Tennessee State, 64-49, on Saturday night in Brooks Gymansium.

EKU (4-4) turned the ball over a season-low 11 times, but shot a season-low 25.7 percent (18-of-70) from the floor. ETSU (6-4), meanwhile, shot it at a 46.7 percent (21-of-45) clip, the highest field goal percentage allowed by the Colonels all season.

Sophomore Michaela Hunter paced Eastern with 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Junior Shelly Harper pulled down a team-best eight boards.

Shamauria Bridges led the Buccaneers with 16 points, while Destiny Mitchell contributed a double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds).

ETSU led the entire game, as EKU's shooting woes lasted all 40 minutes. The Colonels shot 18 percent (7-of-38) from the floor in the first half and fell behind by as many as 16 points. They battled back to score six of the half's last seven points, and a layup by sophomore Nicole Bowers with 30 seconds on the clock helped Eastern pull to within 11, 30-19, at halftime.

East Tennessee regained the momentum, though, with a 6-0 run to open the second half, and the Bucs led by double digits for a majority of the second half.

The Colonels will look to regroup when they head to Normal, Alabama on Wednesday to face Alabama A&M at 7:00 p.m.
