Joining EKU (2-3) in the three-day event is the host team Samford, Evansville and OVC foe Belmont. The Colonels are slated to play Evansville twice and Samford and Belmont once each.
Eastern took on Samford last weekend at the Mercer Invitational and fell in extra innings, 5-3. The Colonels had a chance to defeat Samford in that game, but left the bases loaded in bottom of the seventh inning with the score tied at 2-all. The Bulldogs then capitalized on a pair of EKU errors in the top of the eighth to push across three runs.
The Colonels last met Evansville in 2010 when the two squads split a pair of games at the Lipscomb Tournament.
Eastern Kentucky is 5-0 all-time against Belmont, which includes a three-game sweep last spring in Belmont's first year as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.
Head coach
Jane Worthington used three starting pitchers in the opening weekend with junior
Leanna Pittsenbarger and sophomore
Hayley Flynn each picking up a victory.
Two newcomers made an immediate impact for the Colonels in week one – sophomore
Jessica Gregg and freshman
Krislyn Campos. Gregg hit .500 in four games at the Mercer Invitational and made a diving catch in center field that made the cut for ESPN SportsCenter's Top-10 plays Saturday night.

Campos started all five games at shortstop, posted a batting average of .385 and did not commit an error in the field.
