RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team will play its first ever home night game this weekend against OVC foe Belmont. Saturday's doubleheader is slated to start at 5 p.m., and Sunday's single game at 2 p.m.

Lights were recently installed at Gertrude Hood Field allowing the Colonels (20-14, 8-4 OVC) to play a home night game for the first time since the program's inception in 1993.

EKU President Michael T. Benson is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. The first 50 fans in attendance Saturday will receive a gift courtesy of the EKU Bookstore.

Eastern has won three straight OVC games and currently sits in second place in the OVC East Division standings. The Colonels are 5-1 at home this season. Four starters have batting averages above .350 at Gertrude Hood Field, led by senior Christina Ciolek's robust .579 average (11-of-19). Meanwhile, sophomore Sarah Fobbs has tallied four home runs in six home contests.

EKU's two key starting pitchers – junior Leanna Pittsenbarger and sophomore Hayley Flynn – have totaled 50 strikeouts to just four walks at home.

Belmont (11-23, 5-8) has dropped three straight games overall while scoring just one run in each of those contests. Outfielder Kat Hollingsworth is among the league leaders in batting average (.353).

The two teams met in a non-conference tilt earlier this season with Eastern Kentucky picking up a 3-2 win on Feb. 15. Freshman Amber Murray hit a fourth-inning solo home run to give the Colonels the lead for good in that game.
