RICHMOND, Ky. – Junior pitcher Leanna Pittsenbarger recorded her 10th shutout to lead the Eastern Kentucky University softball team to a 3-0 win in game one of a doubleheader with Austin Peay. The Lady Govs piled on three home runs to win game two, 8-4.

Pittsenbarger (17-8) was dominant in the opener as the righty struck out 16 APSU batters and limited the Lady Govs to just two singles.

Eastern (25-16, 13-6 OVC) got all the run support Pittsenbarger would need in the third inning. Senior Nicole Heitz scored all the way from first base on an Austin Peay (19-27, 7-13) throwing error.

Senior Christina Ciolek and sophomore Sarah Fobbs chipped in with RBI hits in the fifth to round out the scoring.

Game two featured four home runs overall including a pivotal fourth inning grand slam by Austin Peay's Chandler Groves.

The Colonels quickly jumped on top in the first inning behind a Fobbs three-run shot down the left field line. Austin Peay responded with its first run of the day on a Kristin Whitmire solo home run in the second inning.

The game turned in the fourth inning when Groves hit a two-out grand slam, her first home run of the year, to put the Lady Govs on top, 5-3. Whitmire added a three-run homer in the sixth to give Austin Peay a comfortable 8-3 lead.

Eastern Kentucky stranded eight runners on base in the loss.

With the game two win, Austin Peay snapped a six-game losing streak.

The Colonels are back in action Tuesday, April 22 with a doubleheader at Northern Kentucky.
