COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team rode the pitching of junior Leanna Pittsenbarger to take the first game of an OVC doubleheader at Tennessee Tech Saturday afternoon, 2-0. The Golden Eagles responded in game two with a 9-1 win.

Pittsenbarger held Tennessee Tech to three hits while striking out nine batters. The righty earned her 11th complete game shutout, which ties a program single season record set back in 2001 by EKU Athletics Hall of Famer Jonelle Csora.

Junior catcher Katie Tackett gave the Colonels (27-18, 14-7 OVC) the lead with an RBI single in the fourth inning. Senior Christina Ciolek added an insurance run one inning later with a two-out RBI hit.

The victory also marked the 600th in the career of EKU head coach Jane Worthington. Now in her 22nd year as the head coach of the Colonels, Worthington has compiled an overall record of 600-565.

In game two, Tennessee Tech (19-33, 11-12) scored six runs on a mere one hit in the first inning to blow open the game. The Colonels committed three errors and walked four batters in that frame.

Eastern's lone run came from a Kayla Joyce RBI single in the fifth.

The two teams will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow, April 27 at 2 p.m. ET.
