CHARLESTON, Ill. – In two games Saturday, the Eastern Kentucky University softball team and host Eastern Illinois combined to score just four runs. The two teams split the doubleheader with the Colonels taking game one in nine innings, 2-1, and EIU responding with a 1-0 win in the second.

Junior starting pitcher Leanna Pittsenbarger pitched another gem in the first game. After giving up a solo home run in the second, the righty settled down and did not allow another run in the last seven frames. Pittsenbarger set a new EKU single-game record with 18 strikeouts. Seven of the nine Eastern Illinois starters struck out at least twice.

The Colonels (17-13, 5-3 OVC) evened the game in the fourth behind senior Christina Ciolek's fourth home run of the season. Freshman Krislyn Campos finally broke the 1-1 tie in the ninth with her first collegiate home run.

EIU (24-11, 5-4) pitcher Hanna Mennenga nearly matched Pittsenbarger in the opener. Last year's OVC Pitcher of the Year went all nine innings, gave up two runs and struck out 11 Colonels.

In game two, the lone run came in the third inning thanks to a two-out RBI double by Eastern Illinois' Brooke Owens. Panther pitcher Stephanie Maday earned her third shutout while only allowing two Eastern Kentucky hits.

The loss spoiled sophomore Hayley Flynn's second collegiate complete game. Flynn went all six innings inside the circle and equaled a personal best with seven strikeouts.

Eastern Kentucky concludes its weekend road trip with a doubleheader at SIUE tomorrow.
