EKU Softball Wraps Up Regular Season Against Jacksonville State

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University softball team concludes the regular season this weekend with a three-game home set against OVC leader Jacksonville State. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game Sunday. First pitch both days is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Saturday is Autism Awareness Day at Gertrude Hood Field. The Colonel softball team will hold a silent auction throughout the afternoon with proceeds benefitting The Robert Douglas Whitlock, Jr. Fund for Autism.
 
Before Sunday's regular season finale, Eastern will celebrate Senior Day. Christina Ciolek and Nicole Heitz have both played more than 150 games in their Colonel careers. Ciolek, the team's starting first baseman, leads the squad in batting average (.342), RBIs (28), runs (22) and doubles (nine). Heitz, Eastern's right fielder, has come on strong in OVC action and has a team-best .450 on-base percentage in league games.
 
Eastern Kentucky (27-19, 14-8 OVC) currently sits in a tie for fourth in the league standings behind Jacksonville State (37-12, 20-4), Eastern Illinois and SIUE. The Colonels are 10-3 at home this season with six starters hitting above .300 at Gertrude Hood Field.
 
The Gamecocks are scorching hot entering the final weekend. JSU has won eight straight games by an average score of 9-1.
