Second-Half Goals Doom EKU Soccer in Loss to Ohio

I Box Score (PDF)

ATHENS, Ohio – A pair of second-half goals lifted host Ohio over the Eastern Kentucky University soccer team, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Chessa Field.

EKU drops to 2-3-0 with the loss.

"Our team fought hard today, but not quite hard enough," head coach Melissa Barnes said. "We put Ohio under a great deal of pressure in the fist half, but couldn't convert our chances. Credit to Ohio, in the second half they did a great job of attacking."

Freshman goalkeeper Anna Hall made six saves in a scoreless first half, but the Ohio attack eventually wore down the EKU defense. Alexis Milesky gave the Bobcats the lead with a breakaway goal just eight minutes into the second half, and Carly Manso added an insurance goal in the 76th minute.

Ohio outshot EKU on the day, 23-8. Fourteen of the Bobcats' shots came in the second half.

Sophomore Cassie Smith and freshman Logan Harvey led EKU with two shots apiece.

Junior defender Merrissa Vault played all 90 minutes in the loss.

Hall made a career-high nine saves in the game.

EKU will look to regroup from this weekend's road trip by hosting UNC Asheville and Marshall at EKU Soccer Field next weekend.
