RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team will be seeking its sixth consecutive win over rival Morehead State when the Colonels travel to Ellis T. Johnson Arena on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff.
EKU (8-10, 3-5 OVC) leads the all-time series with Morehead State, 45-41, and the Colonels have won five straight over their rivals dating back to 2012.
When EKU visited Johnson Arena last season, the Colonels shots a season-best 56.3 percent from the field on their way to a convincing 79-58 win.
EKU will be facing a much-improved Morehead State team on Saturday, though. The Eagles (9-12, 5-3 OVC) beat Tennessee Tech, 64-54, on the road on Monday and are now tied for third in the OVC standings.
Morehead State is led by senior guard Almesha Jones, who averages 17.3 points-per-game and an OVC-best 8.0 assists-per-game.
EKU is led by the high-scoring duo of sophomore
Michaela Hunter and junior
Shameekia Murray. Hunter and Murray – the reigning OVC Player and Newcomer of the Week – are the only OVC teammates both ranked in the top-10 in scoring during conference play (both are averaging 16.8 points-per-game during OVC play).
Eastern had won two straight before a 73-53 loss at Jacksonville State on Wednesday.
Saturday's rivalry game is the last of a four-game road swing for EKU. The Colonels return home to face Tennessee State on Thursday, February 5, at 5:30 p.m.
