MOREHEAD, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team led by four at halftime, but watched as host Morehead State opened the second half on 14-0 on its way to a 76-58 win on Saturday at Ellis T. Johnson Arena.

It is EKU's (8-11, 3-6 OVC) first loss to Morehead State (10-12, 6-3 OVC) since January 14, 2012.

Eastern limited Morehead State to 30.8 percent (8-of-26) shooting in the first half, as a jumper by junior Shameekia Murray sent the Colonels into the locker room at halftime up by four, 33-29.

The second half, however, was a different story. Morehead State exploded out of the locker room on a 14-0 run and took a double-digit lead, 43-33, when Almesha Jones sank a pair of free throws with 14:25 remaining in the game.

EKU got it back to within eight, 49-41, when sophomore Mariah Massengill converted a layup with 10:05 on the clock; however, MSU responded with an 8-0 run that put the game out of reach. The Colonels' deficit remained in the teens the rest of the way.

Morehead State shot 46 percent (17-of-37) from the field in the second half.

Murray led EKU with 16 points while Massengill tied a career-high with 12 points. Junior Miranda Maples chipped in with 10 points, while junior Jasmine Henshaw grabbed a career-high 12 boards.

Jones paced the Eagles with 26 points and seven assists, while Eriel McKee finished with a double-double (12 points, 16 rebounds).
