LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University women's cross country team finished in the top half of a deep field in the Red Race of the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Saturday morning at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer Park.
The Colonels – ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Southeast Region – finished 20
th out of 45 teams with a score of 571 points, finishing ahead of two nationally-ranked teams in No. 27 Texas and No. 29 Cornell, as well as regionally-ranked teams such as Virginia Tech, Duke, Oklahoma, Florida, Clemson, Missouri and Kentucky.
Freshman
Charlotte Imer paced EKU, finishing 48
th out of 311 competitors with a 6K time of 20:45.3. Senior
Anna Reddin was second on the team and 72
nd overall with a time of 20:58.1. Senior
Julie Mathisen (131
st / 21:19.9), junior
Ann Tum (164
th / 21:31.9) and senior
Ashley Svec (176
th / 21:37.3) rounded out Eastern's scoring five at the meet.
The men's 'B' team also ran at the meet, finishing 19
th out of 31 teams in the Black Race. The Colonels defeated the likes of Montana State, Tulane, Morehead State, Western Kentucky, Xavier and Murray State.
Sophomore
Sergio Mena led the way for the men's 'B' team, finishing fourth out of 207 runners with an impressive 8K time of 24:11.1. Senior
Ben Turner was second on the team and 65
th overall with a time of 25:07.6. Sophomore Jakob Abrahamsen – seeing his first action since an injury on the track in May – finished 74
th with a time of 25:10.3. Junior
Harry Earl (106
th / 25:30.4) and senior
Jack Gaddie (199
th / 27:23.9) rounded out EKU's top-five.
The EKU cross country teams have next weekend off before traveling to Murray, Kentucky for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships on Saturday, October 31.
