Soccer Defeated on the Road at Morehead State

Box Score (PDF)

MOREHEAD, Ky.
– The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team got a goal from sophomore Jordan Foster, but fell to in-state rival Morehead State, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Jayne Stadium.

For the second consecutive game, Eastern amassed at least 20 shots and outshot its opponent (20-18). However, the Colonels could not capitalize on their offensive barrage.

Instead, it was Morehead State that took advantage of its fewer opportunities. The Eagles scored six minutes into the game when Abby Timm took a pass from Kelsey Gomez and beat two Colonel defenders for the score. MSU added two more goals before halftime to go in at the break with a commanding 3-0 lead.

Foster put the Colonels on the board in the 73rd minute when she received a cross from fellow sophomore Logan Harvey and headed it in from the middle of the box. It was Foster's first career goal and Harvey's second career assist.

Morehead State, however, responded with another goal by Timm in the 79th minute to halt any thought of a comeback and put the game away.

"This is the second game in a row where we've outshot our opponent and managed 20 shots on the day," head coach Andrew Fleming said. "But we have not been very good at all in our defensive third of the field. The girls did another very good job responding and adjusting at halftime, but we can't put ourselves in those situations and expect different results."

Foster came off the bench to lead EKU with five shots on the day. Harvey and sophomore Emmi Carroll contributed three shots apiece.

Sophomore goalkeeper Anna Hall made six saves during the game.

The Colonels return to action on Thursday, October 8, when they host Southeast Missouri at 4:00 p.m.
