Box ScoreCLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The EKU volleyball team fell to Austin Peay State University, 3-0, Saturday at the Dunn Center in its final regular season match of the season.
The Governors won by scores of 26-24, 25-17 and 25-15.
Eastern Kentucky led most of the way in the first set, until the Governors used a 4-0 run to take their first lead at 19-18. The Colonels responded quickly, evening the score at 19 on a kill from
Ally Peters on the ensuing point.
The subsequent 10 points traded sides as the score was knotted at 24 after Eastern Kentucky's
Rachel Vick landed one of her eight kills on the night.
The Governors sealed the set on a kill from Sammie Ebright to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Austin Peay used four kills and a service ace to put together a 9-0 run in the second set to move ahead, 18-9. The Colonels pulled within six, 22-16, on three consecutive kills but the Governors held off EKU for a 25-17 second set victory.
The Governors never trailed in the third, after jumping out to a 6-1 lead. A kill from Eastern's
Danielle Hicks narrowed the Austin Peay lead to 21-15. The Governors, however, closed the set with four unanswered to take the 3-0 win over the Colonels.
Vick, Peters and
Johanna Boyer all logged eight kills for Eastern in the loss.
Celina Sanks added five kills, while
Mallory Maxwell chipped in 20 digs for the Colonels.
Sammie Ebright lead Austin Peay with 15 kills and 17 digs.
Eastern Kentucky (10-22, 9-7 OVC) will take on Tennessee State Thursday in the opening round of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships. Thursday's match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT. The Colonels defeated Tennessee State in both meetings this season.
The OVC Championships will be hosted by league champion, Murray State University.
