RICHMOND, Ky. – Hot second-half shooting from behind the arc led visiting Jacksonville State past the Eastern Kentucky University women's basketball team, 69-65, on Monday afternoon at McBrayer Arena.
EKU led by five at halftime and went up by 14, 40-26, after junior
Shelly Harper converted a layup with 13:02 remaining in the game. However, the Gamecocks responded with a 14-0 run, capped by a Destany McLin jumped that tied it at 40-40 with 10:10 on the clock.
JSU continued its hot streak and pulled ahead by seven, 57-50, following dual three-point shots by Candace Morton with 4:58 left.
The Colonels got back to within one, 57-56, on a tip-in by Harper with 3:14 on the clock, but the Gamecocks outscored EKU, 12-5, in the final three minutes of play to seal the victory.
In all, JSU knocked down seven three-pointers in the final 12 minutes of action to storm back for the win.
Junior
Shameekia Murray paced EKU with 19 points, while Harper notched her second double-double in the Colonels' last three games, scoring a season-high 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Harper's performance helped EKU outscore JSU, 28-12, in the paint.
Sophomore
Michaela Hunter was just shy of a double-double with 16 points and nine boards.
Morton led Jacksonville State with 16 points, while McLin contributed a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds).
The Gamecocks went just 2-of-13 (15.4 percent) from three-point range in the first half, but went 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from behind the arc in the second half. JSU's bench outscored EKU's bench, 27-5.
The Colonels will be back in action at Belmont on Wednesday, February 25, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern will then close out the regular season by hosting Tennessee Tech on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
