RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University soccer team wrapped up its two-game homestand with a 2-0 loss to visiting UNCG on Sunday afternoon at EKU Soccer Field.
UNCG (1-3-0) got on the board early as Diarra Simmons took a pass from Zoe Fishman in the fourth minute, got around her defender and buried a goal to give the Spartans a quick 1-0 lead.
EKU's defense stiffened following the early deficit, though, and the game remained in question up until the end. In the 87
th minute, Melanie Formosa finally gave the Spartans the insurance goal they were looking for when she broke free up the middle and scored from about 10 yards out.
EKU (0-4-0) was paced offensively by freshman
Tara Claus, who came off the bench to fire three shots. Sophomores
Jordan Foster and
Logan Harvey attempted EKU's only two shots on goal in the game.
Simmons led all players in the game with five shots.
Senior
Merrissa Vault and freshmen
Emily Beaver and
Kacy Eckley played all 90 minutes on the backline for the Colonels.
Senior

The Colonels will now hit the road again to face East Tennessee State on Wednesday, September 2, at 7:00 p.m.
