Jordan Berry Makes NFL Debut

RICHMOND, Ky. – Former punter Jordan Berry made his NFL debut last week with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Berry punted twice against the New England Patriots during Thursday's nationally televised season-opener.  He averaged 43.5 yards per punt.  His first punt went for 50 yards.

Berry signed with the Steelers in April.  He was a member of the Colonel football program from 2009 to 2013.

Berry was a member of the EKU football program from 2009-13 and was a three-time All-Ohio Valley Conference punter.  As a senior, the native of Essendon, Victoria, Australia was part of a punting unit that ranked first in the OVC and fifth nationally (FCS) in net punting at 39.08 yards per punt.

In the 2013 win at Southeast Missouri, Berry nearly set a program record and scored a touchdown on a fake field goal.  His first punt that day was a 76-yarder that was just two yards shy of the EKU single-game record. In the second quarter, Berry was the holder as EKU lined up for a 42-yard field goal attempt.  He took the snap and ran 25 yards untouched for a touchdown.

Berry also recorded a 77-yard punt against Austin Peay in 2013.

As a freshman in 2010, Berry ranked seventh nationally and set a program single-season record for punting average at 42.9 yards per punt.  He went on to break his own record as a senior when he averaged 43.3 yards per punt.

The former Colonel grabbed the last roster spot for the Steelers after beating out Brad Wing, who was subsequently traded to the New York Giants.

Eastern Kentucky is off this weekend.  The Colonels will open OVC play on Sept. 26 at home against Austin Peay.
