Gameday: Tennessee Tech Doubleheader

RICHMOND, Ky. – The Eastern Kentucky University men's and women's basketball teams will host an OVC doubleheader on Saturday against the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech at McBrayer Arena.

- EKU (12-9, 3-3 OVC) will tip off against TTU (13-7, 5-2 OVC) at 2:00 p.m. ET.

- Junior JaVontae Hawkins posted his first double-double as a Colonel on Thursday, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead EKU to a 91-88 win over Jacksonville State.

- Hawkins was one of five Colonels to score in double figures on Thursday. He was joined by freshman Nick Mayo (18), senior Jarelle Reischel (16), junior Jaylen Babb-Harrison (11) and sophomore Paul Jackson (10).

- Jackson recorded a game-high nine assists in the win. He is averaging 7.6 assists-per-game in OVC play, second-best in the league.

- Mayo now ranks third in the OVC in scoring during league play (17.7 ppg).

- Junior Isaac McGlone has committed only one turnover in EKU's last seven games. He has played 240 minutes during that span (34.2 mpg). He has dished out 16 assists during the span.

- EKU leads the OVC in field goal percentage at 49.5%. The EKU single-season record for field goal percentage is 49.1% (1986-87).


SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

- This is the 131st all-time meeting between long-time OVC rivals, EKU and Tennessee Tech. Eastern leads the series, 72-58.

- Behind a career-high 35 points from Corey Walden, the Colonels defeated the Golden Eagles, 70-67, in last year's regular season finale on Feb. 28, 2015 at McBrayer Arena.

- The Golden Eagles are led by Torrance Rowe, who comes in averaging 17.0 ppg and 4.9 apg.

- With Wednesday's 72-60 win over Murray State, EKU became the first team in the OVC to record 300 conference wins. The Colonels have an all-time OVC record of 300-274. EKU has competed in the OVC since the 1977-78 season. 

- The Colonels will take on the Golden Eagles in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

- EKU (10-7, 4-2 OVC) has won four of its last five OVC games. After splitting last week's conference games at EIU and SIUE, the Colonels bounced back with a 72-60 win over Murray State at McBrayer Arena on Wednesday for their 300th OVC win.

- Junior Jalen O'Bannon recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 25 points and 12 rebounds on Wednesday. Shameekia Murray (15), Michaela Hunter (14) and Abby Wright (10) also scored in double digits. 

- Jalen O'Bannon (16.2), Shameekia Murray (14.7) and Michaela Hunter (12.1) are averaging in double-digit scoring. 

- O'Bannon ranks fifth in the OVC in scoring, while Murray ranks eighth. O'Bannon leads the conference with 9.8 rebounds-per-game.

- The Colonels rank third in the OVC in scoring, averaging 72.6 points-per-game. 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

- TTU (6-14, 2-5 OVC) is coming off a 70-60 win over OVC foe Tennessee State on Thursday. Thursday's win ended a five-game losing streak for the Golden Eagles. 

- EKU trails in the all-time series 24-66 which dates back to the 1973-74 season. The teams have split the last four meetings by an average margin of 5.7 points. 

- Samaria Howard ranks third in the OVC with 19.9 points-per-game, leading the Golden Eagle offense.

- The Colonels host two more OVC contests next week, as Jacksonville State (January 27) and Morehead State (January 30) visit Richmond.
