RICHMOND, Ky. – On a day which the EKU volleyball team honored one of the winningest Division I coaches of all-time, the Colonels rolled to a 3-0 win over visiting Ohio Valley Conference opponent Tennessee Tech University on Saturday at McBrayer Arena.
The Colonels won by scores of 25-22, 25-13, and 25-20 marking their fourth consecutive victory and fifth in the last six matches.
Dr. Geri Polvino—EKU volleyball's first head coach—became the newest member of the Wall of Honor at McBrayer Arena. Polvino is a member of the OVC and EKU Athletics Hall of Fame, after compiling 627 wins in 32 seasons at the helm of EKU volleyball. Her wins total ranks in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's top-15 of Division I coaches.
Eastern's defense affected the Golden Eagle offense all day, as the Colonels racked up their second highest block total of the season. Junior
Ciera Koons led the Colonels' defensive effort with nine blocks in the win, matching a career-high in the category. Koons and the Colonels held the Golden Eagle offense to a mere .104 hitting percentage.

Nikki Drost paced the Colonels offensively, finishing with 13 kills. Drost has recorded 10 more kills in 17 matches for EKU this season. Meanwhile, freshman
Rachel Woody picked up her 15th double-double of the year after tallying 12 assists and 11 digs.
The Colonels kept the Golden Eagles at bay in the opening set, before picking up a 25-22 win to take a 1-0 lead. Tennessee Tech hung around in the first points of the second frame before the Colonels broke it open, closing the set on a 12-3 run.
Back-to-back kills from Koons and Woody put the Colonels up 16-11 before a Golden Eagle miscue forced a TTU timeout.
Leading 18-11, the closed the set with ease taking seven of the remaining nine points in the set. Much was the same in the final set. With the win, the Colonels finish the regular season with a 6-2 record at McBrayer Arena.
The Colonels travel to Morehead on Wednesday to take on the Eagles of Morehead State University in another OVC contest. Wednesday's match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve.
