Second Half Run Leads EKU Past No. 2 Georgetown

RICHMOND, Ky. --
Eastern Kentucky used an Isaac McGlone three, sparking a 12-2 run in the second half, to help pull away from Georgetown College, 83-71, in an exhibition game on Sunday afternoon in McBrayer Arena.
 
Georgetown College (4-0) is the No. 2 ranked team in NAIA basketball.
 
After McGlone missed on the second of two free throw attempts, junior Zach Charles secured the offensive rebound and found McGlone again wide open at the top of the key behind the arc. Over the course of the run, McGlone tallied nine of the 12 points, spanning just 3:04.
 
The Colonels were led in scoring by freshman Asante Gist, who scored 22 points on 6-of-11 shooting while dishing out five assists. He also was 8-of-8 from the charity strip. McGlone was not far behind, totaling 18 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 4-of-5 from behind the arc.
 
EKU shot 52 percent from the field and a blistering 50 percent behind the three-point line. The Colonels offense totaled 19 assists on 26 makes and converted 21-of-25 free throws. 
 
The Eastern defense forced 14 Tiger turnovers, seven of those being steals, and converted them into 25 points. Also, Charles swatted three of EKU's four blocked shots.
 
The Colonels found themselves down 25-22 midway through the first half, when Nick Mayo recorded two vicious dunks on back-to-back possessions that gave the Colonels the lead for good.
 
The Tigers were led by Troy Steward, who scored 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting.
 
Head coach Dan McHale's Colonels averaged 80.5 points-per-game in 2015-16, which ranked 18thnationally. EKU was the only team in the OVC to rank in the top three in the league in field goal percentage (a school-record 49.1%), three-point field goal percentage (39.5%) and free throw percentage (73.0%).
 
Eastern Kentucky will begin its regular season Friday, as the Colonels host IUPUI in McBrayer Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
