EKU Drops Game Two at Lipscomb, 4-2

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– The Eastern Kentucky University baseball team dropped game two of its season-opening three-game set at Lipscomb, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field.

EKU (1-1) took an early lead when freshman Alex Holderbach singled in junior Shea Sullivan in the top of the second inning.

However, host Lipscomb (1-1) went ahead in the bottom of the fourth when Von Watson ripped a two-run double into right field, scoring Lee Solomon and Adam Lee.

The Bisons added another run on an RBI double by Allan Hooker in the bottom of the sixth, and then went up 4-1 on an RBI fielder's choice by Lee in the home half of the seventh.

The Colonels attempted to stage a rally in the top of the eighth, as junior Matt Olive delivered a two-out, pinch-hit base hit up the middle, scoring senior Luke Wurzelbacher and cutting the deficit to two runs. Junior Cole Warrenfeltz followed that with a pinch-hit double down the third base line, advancing pinch-runner Daniel McFarland to third and bringing senior Doug Teegarden to the plate, representing the go-ahead run. Teegarden, however, grounded out to first to end the threat and the inning.

Junior southpaw Alex Hamilton (0-1) started on the mound for EKU and tossed 5.1 innings, surrendering three runs on five hits and striking out four batters.

Jeffrey Passantino (1-0) went seven strong innings for Lipscomb, allowing only one run on four hits. He fanned seven Colonels.

Senior Mandy Alvarez finished 2-for-4 at the plate for Eastern.

The Colonels and the Bisons will play the decisive game three of this weekend's series on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. ET.
