Baseball Drops Series Finale At Lipscomb

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –
Eastern Kentucky scored first but fell in the series finale at Lipscomb, 3-2, on Sunday.

The Colonels (1-2) jumped out to the early lead with two runs in the top of the first.  Senior Doug Teegarden led off the game with a home run to right center.  Kyle Nowlin followed with a double to left center.  Back-to-back ground outs by Mandy Alvarez and Ben Fisher were enough to get Nowlin home.

Lipscomb (2-1) cut the deficit in half in the third and then took the lead on the fourth on a two-run home run from Tevin Symonette.

Eastern Kentucky got the tying run on base with two outs in the eighth when Alvarez sent a 2-0 pitch into left field for a single.  However, the rally attempt ended one batter later.

Nowlin had two hits in four at bats and scored one run.

Hunter Dunn started for EKU and allowed three runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits in four innings.  He walked two and struck out three.  Nicholas Cumpston was stellar in relief.  The junior newcomer did not allow a run over the final four innings.  He gave up just one hit, did not walk a batter and struck out three.

After the first inning, Lipscomb starter Brady Puckett held Eastern scoreless.  He allowed just two runs on six hits while striking out five in seven innings of work.  Symonette finished 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs.  Michael Gigliotti went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Eastern Kentucky plays at No. 2 Louisville on Tuesday.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
