Box Score

LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
Despite tallying nine hits in the contest, the EKU softball team fell 6-1 to the University of Louisville on Saturday at Ulmer Stadium.

EKU (15-6) decoded the Louisville pitching staff, generating nine hits on the day—tying the Cardinals in the category—but could only muster one run.

The Colonels stranded nine base runners on Saturday compared to four by the Cardinals.

Louisville (16-6) plated runs in consecutive innings to take a 2-0 lead over EKU. An RBI single from Maryssa Becker in the first put the Cardinals up 1-0, before a solo homer in the following inning from Alisone Sydlwoski added to the Louisville lead.

Trailing 2-0 in the top half of the fourth, the Colonels looked to cut into the Cardinals' lead. Singles from Johnkyria Alston and Amber Murray put two on for EKU with one out. Brooke Harrison dropped a sacrifice bunt, advancing Alston and Murray to second and third as EKU threatened. However, the Colonels were unable to capitalize leaving two stranded to end in the inning.

The Cardinals answered with four runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a two RBI double from Becker to make it 6-0 in favor of Louisville.

EKU got on the board in the fifth on an RBI groundout from Rachel Minogue for the Colonels' lone run of the game as Paige Murphy scored after doubling to left field earlier in the inning.

Murphy led EKU going 3-for-4 from the plate with one run. Alston added two hits on three at bats for the Colonels.
