NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Despite two home runs from
Daniel McFarland, EKU fell at Belmont, 6-5, in game two of the Ohio Valley Conference series.
The Bruins took the lead for good on Kyle Conger's one-out RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the sixth inning. EKU got the tying run on second with one out in the top of the ninth, but a line drive nearly out of reach of the shortstop was turned into a game-ending double play.
McFarland had a hand in each of EKU's five runs. He gave the Colonels (10-9, 1-4 OVC) the early lead with his first career home run in the top of the second, a three-run shot over the right field wall. The sophomore from Louisville made it a 4-0 game when he scored on a Belmont error in the fourth inning. After Belmont went in front 5-4 with two in the bottom of the fifth, McFarland led off the sixth with his second home run of the game.
Brennan Washington's three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth got the Bruins on the board and cut Eastern's lead to 4-3.
McFarland finished 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBIs.
Mandy Alvarez went 2-for-4. Washington's lone hit in four at bats was his three-run home run.
The Colonels and Bruins will conclude their series on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET.
