HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Eastern Kentucky suffered its third straight one-run loss on Tuesday, falling at Marshall 5-4.
Andrew Zban's single through the right side for the Thundering Herd (11-8) in the bottom of the eighth brought home Aaron Bossi and broke a 4-4 tie.
EKU (10-11) took the early lead on
Luke Wurzelbacher's sacrifice fly in the first inning. Trailing 2-1, the Colonels platted one run each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to go in front 4-2.
Alex Holderbach had a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Kyle Nowlin and
Doug Teegarden each hit solo home runs in the fifth and sixth innings. It was Nowlin's Ohio Valley Conference-best ninth of the season. Teegarden has homered in each of the last two games and has three this season.
Nowlin had a 3-for-5 day with two runs and an RBI.
Cory Garrastazu tied the game for Marshall with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.
Bossi went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for Marshall.
The Colonels will play a three-game series at home against Evansville beginning on Thursday at 4 p.m.
