RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky lost to Evansville, 4-0, in the series opener on Friday at Turkey Hughes Field.
Evansville (10-10) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth on a two-run home run by Travis Tokarek. A ground ball by Korbin Williams in the fifth was enough to score a run and give the Purple Aces a 3-0 advantage.
Eastern's
Eric Nerl (3-1) allowed four runs on six hits in eight innings. He walked two and struck out five. Evansville starter Connor Strain (2-1) pitched six shutout innings, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out eight.
Daniel McFarland had two hits in four at bats for EKU (10-12). No Evansville player had more than one hit. Tokarek finished 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.
The Colonels and Purple Aces will conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
