Softball Allows Just Two Hits, But Falls 2-0

Box Score

STATESBORO, Ga. –
Eastern Kentucky University's softball team allowed only two hits, but fell to North Dakota, 2-0, today at the Eagle Classic hosted by Georgia Southern University.

UND had one hit in the first and one in the fourth, however the first inning hit was a two-run home run by Shelby Hard.

EKU (10-3) starter Haley Flynn didn't give up another hit and left after three innings.  She did not walk a batter and struck out four.  Alex Sallberg came on in relief in the fourth and gave up just one hit while holding North Dakota scoreless the final three innings.  She walked one and struck out three.

The Colonels attempted to rally in the sixth inning.  Kayla Joyce led off the frame with a single to left center and Paige Murphy reached on a fielder's choice.  Those two runners moved to second and third on a sacrifice bunt.  However, Kaylin VanDomelen retired the next two batters to get out of the jam.

VanDomelen pitched seven innings for North Dakota (4-10).  She allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven.

Joyce finished 2-3 for Eastern Kentucky.

EKU will face North Dakota again on Saturday at 10 a.m.  The Colonels will also face Harvard on Saturday at noon.
