LEXINGTON, Ky. – The EKU softball team will make the short trip to John Cropp Stadium to take on No. 15 University of Kentucky on Wednesday in a mid-week non-conference contest.
Wednesday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
EKU (27-8, 11-2 OVC) suffered its first two Ohio Valley Conference losses over the weekend, before bouncing back to an 8-1 win over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Sunday.
Senior pitcher
Hayley Flynn headlined Saturday's losses at Eastern Illinois University in dominating fashion, finishing with a program record 23 strikeouts in 10 and one-third innings on the mound in game one. Flynn's strikeout total fell just five short of the National Collegiate Athletic Association record for strikeouts in a single game.
Flynn tallied 34 strikeouts over the weekend, as the Colonels are currently in second place in the OVC. She leads the OVC with 18 wins on the season, ranking sixth in the country in wins and 12th in strikeouts (165).
Sophomore outfielder
Paige Murphy leads the Colonels' offense, hitting .410 on the season and ranks second in the conference in the category.
UK (34-8, 11-4 SEC) enters Wednesday's contest ranked 15th in the nation. The Wildcats are coming off a three-game sweep at No. 8 Louisiana State University.
Senior pitcher Kelsey Nunley leads the Southeastern Conference with 144 strikeouts on the season and ranks second in the SEC with five shutouts on the season. Senior outfielder Sylver Samuel's .381 batting average leads the Wildcats through 42 games.
UK won the last meeting on March 11, 2015, 2-0.
