RICHMOND, Ky. – After suffering a 2-1 loss at the 12th ranked University of Kentucky on Wednesday, the EKU softball team returns to Gertrude Hood Field for a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series against Belmont University.
Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for a noon first pitch with Sunday's finale slated for a 1 p.m. start. FREE t-shirts will be available for fans while supplies last compliments of EKU Athletics.
EKU (27-9, 11-2 OVC) enters the weekend series with a flawless 7-0 record at home this season. The Colonels opened OVC play on a 10-game winning streak before falling in Saturday's doubleheader to Eastern Illinois University.
The Colonels are hitting .309 on the season, behind only Jacksonville State in the conference. Sophomore
Paige Murphy ranks second in the league with a .410 average at the plate thus far this season.
Meanwhile, senior pitcher
Hayley Flynn's 165 strikeouts leads the OVC and ranks 13th in the country. Her 18 wins on the year are best in the OVC and ranks 12th nationally.
The Colonels' 2.04 earned-run average and .230 opposing batting average both lead the league.
Belmont (14-26, 7-7 OVC) has lost its last three contests. The Bruins lost both games of Sunday's OVC doubleheader at Murray State and lost to non-conference foe Middle Tennessee State, 11-6, on Wednesday.
Hayley Baker leads the Bruins' offense, hitting .365 on the year. The trio of Ashley Johnson, Lexi Rouse and Shelby Williard has split time on the mound, combining for more than 202 of Belmont's 244 innings this year.
Rouse leads the team with five wins, as Williard and Johnson have recorded three wins each.
