RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern fell behind early and couldn't complete a comeback in a 7-3 loss to Southern Illinois Edwardsville on Saturday at Turkey Hughes Field.
The Cougars scored four in the first inning and then added one run in the second and one in the third to build a 6-0 lead.
Alec Skender scored on an error to get the game started for SIUE. Dustin Woodcock followed with an RBI triple. Skyler Geissinger had an RBI single before the Cougars scored off another Eastern error to cap the four-run frame.
Shea Sullivan singled through the right side in the third to score
Cole Warrenfeltz and get the Colonels (16-19, 6-8 OVC) on the board. A solo home run by Warrenfeltz in the fifth made it a 6-2 game. It was his third of the season.
Warrenfeltz had a 2-for-3 day, scored twice and drove in a run.
Mandy Alvarez had three hits and scored a run.
Woodcock finished 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for SIUE (7-24, 4-14 OVC). Jarrett Bednar (1-7) allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
The two teams will complete their three-game series on Sunday. First pitch at Turkey Hughes Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
