Minogue, EKU Win Both In Saturday Doubleheader

Box Score Game 1 | Box Score Game 2

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Freshman Rachel Minogue's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh gave the EKU softball team a 4-3 win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Gertrude Hood Field, as the Colonels took both games of the Ohio Valley Conference twin bill over Belmont University.

Tied at three with one out, Minogue dropped a liner over the head of the Belmont shortstop to score Paige Murphy and give the Colonels their second win of the day.

EKU (29-9, 13-2 OVC) trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom half of the sixth until freshman Brittany Oldaker knocked her second homer of the day to even the score at three.

After the Colonels took a 1-0 lead in the first, the Bruins plated two runs in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Belmont (14-28, 7-7 OVC) extended its lead to 3-1 in the fourth on an RBI single from Jesse Andree.

Freshman Hannah Clark's sacrifice fly to left field sent Krislyn Campos home for the score to pull the Colonels within one in the bottom of the fifth, before Oldaker's longball staged the comeback victory.

In Saturday's first game, an erred throw from behind the plate allowed senior Kayla Joyce to round third and cross the plate for EKU. Joyce legged out a bunt back to the pitcher to put one on for the Colonels. Joyce swiped second and then third, forcing an erred throw to third as Joyce crossed the plate for EKU.

EKU held on to a 1-0 lead until Belmont's Jess Andree knocked a solo shot to left field to knot it at one apiece.

The Colonels' offense struck again in the bottom of the fifth, as Oldaker belted her second homer of year to put EKU back in front, 2-1.

EKU added two runs in the home half of the sixth for good measure, as Joyce scored her second run of the game on another Belmont error.

Later in the inning, Clark's fly ball to right field was deep enough to score Paige Murphy and give EKU a 4-1 win.

Fobbs went 4-for-6 on the day for the Colonels as Oldaker finished 3-for-6. Both had one RBI each on Saturday.

Junior Alex Sallberg notched her program-record sixth save of the year in a relief effort in game one before picking up her ninth win of the year in game two. Sallberg finished with six innings of work, scattering three hits and striking out three.

Senior Hayley Flynn struck out 13 in eight innings on the mound, tallying her 19th win of the season in Saturday's first win.

The series finale will be Sunday at Gertrude Hood Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
