RICHMOND, Ky. – The EKU softball team is set to host the University of Miami at Ohio in a twin bill on Tuesday afternoon at Gertrude Hood Field.
Game one is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. with the second game to follow. Campus Rec will be providing FREE hotdogs, t-shirts and waters to EKU students.
EKU (29-10, 13-3 OVC) took both games against the Bruins of Belmont on Saturday by scores of 4-1 and 4-3. The Colonels trailed by six runs heading into the bottom of the fifth on Sunday but were able to plate five, before tying it up after the sixth inning. Belmont snuck another runner across the plate in the seventh for the go-ahead run.
Senior right-hander
Hayley Flynn leads the conference in wins (19) and is ninth in the nation in the category. The Chandlersville, Ohio native's 189 strikeouts lead the Ohio Valley Conference and are 10th in the country. Meanwhile, junior
Alex Sallberg is sixth in the country in saves (6).
Krislyn Campos,
Kayla Joyce and
Paige Murphy have been a critical part of the heavy-hitting Eastern offense. The three rank in multiple categories within the OVC.
Campos leads the conference and ranks 30
th in the nation in doubles per game. Campos has compiled a team-high 13 doubles on the season thus far. Joyce leads the conference in stolen bases (22) and is second in hits (49). Murphy leads the conference in runs scored (36), ranks third in batting average (.397) and on base percentage (.485) and is fourth in hits (46).
The Redhawks (25-10, 10-3 MAC) enter Tuesday's doubleheader winning six of their last eight contests.
Taylor Shuey's .430 average leads the Mid-American Conference and her 39 RBI is a team-high. Amber Logemann (16-7) has tossed more than 137 innings, logging 117 strikeouts. Logemann has 10 complete games on the year—three of which were shutouts.
The Colonels are 9-1 at home this season.
