Baseball Drops Series Finale Against MSU

Box Score

RICHMOND, Ky. –
Eastern Kentucky's bid for its first sweep of the season came up short as it fell to Morehead State, 16-2, Sunday afternoon at Turkey Hughes Field.

The Colonels won the first two games of the series on Friday (8-6) and Saturday (19-3).

The Eagles (17-11, 6-6 OVC) used two Eastern errors, and a two-run triple by Will Schneider, to take a four run lead in the top of the first.

MSU used another four-run inning in the top of the fourth to extend the lead, 8-0.

The Colonels (13-15, 3-6 OVC) got on the board with two bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the fourth, making it 8-2. That, however, was as close as EKU would get.

Morehead added six more runs in the top of the fifth, and a two-run homer in the top of the eighth by Trevor Snyder to extend its lead.

Senior Kenny Hostrander led the way for Eastern with two hits, while fellow seniors Kyle Nowlin and Luke Wurzelbacher accounted for the two RBIs.

Snyder anchored the Eagles offense with three hits, six RBIs and one home run.  Reid Leonard finished 4-for-6 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Eastern returns to action Tuesday night when Ohio University comes to Turkey Hughes Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
