MOREHEAD, Ky. – With a 5-2 win in Sunday's Ohio Valley Conference series finale, the EKU softball team completed the sweep over in-state rival Morehead State University at University Field.
EKU (26-6, 10-0 OVC) extended its win streak to 11 games to remain undefeated in conference play.
The Colonels' offense struck first, plating two runs in the second inning. After a leadoff walk and a stolen base from freshman
Hannah Clark, sophomore
Johnkyria Alston singled to score Clark as EKU led 1-0. Freshman
Rachel Minogue drove a ball to short, forcing a MSU error and sending Alston across the plate to put the Colonels up two.

Alston knocked a leadoff double in the fourth to help the Colonels extend their lead as freshman
Sarah Jackson logged an RBI on the fielder's choice and Alston scored her second run of the game.

Senior hurler
Hayley Flynn and the EKU defense held the Eagles hitless through four and two thirds innings, before a single from Karly Thompson.

The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the second with the bases loaded and one out in the inning. However, Flynn honed in to strike out the final two batters to retire the side.
MSU crossed the plate in the bottom of the fifth to cut into the EKU lead. With two on and one out, junior
Alex Sallberg came in relief of Flynn and picked up where Flynn left off.

A mishandled ball from the Colonel defense loaded the bags for the Eagles, before heads-up play from junior
Krislyn Campos got the force at the plate to deny the Eagle score momentarily.

A single from Ellen Bennett got the Eagles on the board before the final out in the fifth as MSU trailed 3-1.

The Colonels added a run in the sixth on an RBI single from Campos to extend their lead back to three. Alston tallied her second RBI of the game in the top of seventh on an RBI groundout to second base to score senior
Sarah Fobbs and push the EKU lead to 5-1.

The Eagles were able to add to a run in the home half of the seventh, but the damage was done as EKU claimed the 5-2 victory.

Alston's two RBIs and 2-for-2 day at the plate led the EKU offense.

EKU travels to Eastern Illinois University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville next weekend for two games at each stop. The Colonels will take on EIU in a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
